I paint in oils. Years ago, as an oncology nurse, hospice case manager, wife, and mother of two, I occasionally enrolled in community college ceramics courses. I always enjoyed textiles and fiber art, however seemingly overnight in the early 1990's, I began noticing and appreciating paintings and began a new journey. Now retired from health care, oil painting is an important source of my creative expression.
In my third professional incarnation (my first was in the fashion industry, where esthetics was paramount; second as an oncology and hospice nurse, where healing, even on the journey at end of life was my focus), now as an artist I endeavor to blend beauty, meaning, occasionally nostalgia, and healing through my art.
Just as I don't identify with any one role I've experienced in life, similarly, I don't limit my focus to any one subject matter. Rather, I'm drawn to the play of light on objects, to the beauty of brush strokes, and frequently to patterns and repetition, perhaps seeking order in a seemingly random world.
My goal is not only to enhance my personal space and the spaces of those who appreciate my work, but to bring healing to people's lives. Ten percent of the profit from the sale of my art goes to EverFree.org, whose mission is to accelerate freedom for human trafficking survivors.
